Regarding the visit of the Kosovan Prime Minister Albin Kurti, below is the reaction of President Stevo Pendarovski:
„The demonstration of provocative nationalist iconography that promotes chauvinist ideas of greater states, sparks ethnic hatred and intolerance, which undoubtedly goes against the fundamental principles and values of the Framework Agreement as well as the concept of Macedonia as a multi-ethnic state.
The organizers of the public gatherings in Tetovo and Chair must be sanctioned for violating the legal provisions regarding the use of the state flag and anthem and the flags and symbols of communities, fully ignoring the symbols of the state. In that sense, I urge the competent authorities to complete the foreseen proceedings in such cases in the shortest possible notice.
The manner of realization of the idea to rename a street in the municipality of Chair goes against the principle of democratic debate and respect for the historical heritage of all communities in the country. In that sense, I expect that the competent inspectorates verify whether in the making of this decision, the principle of double majority was indeed respected, thus including the votes of the members of non-majority communities in that municipality.”
