President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, within her participation in the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development in Seville, met with the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Spain, Pedro Sanchez.

Referring to our European integration, Siljanovska-Davkova pointed out the difficult Macedonian compromises that should be adequately evaluated by the European Union and stressed that EU accession would be beneficial both for the Union itself and for the candidate countries that would further stabilize it.

She assessed that Spain is an important partner of the country within NATO, the UN, and the OSCE and expressed gratitude to the Sanchez government and Spain for their consistent support of Macedonian aspirations for membership in the European Union.

Reaffirming the country’s commitment to the European integration path, Siljanovska-Davkova reiterated the position that bilateral issues should not be an obstacle in the accession process. Taking into account the turbulent geopolitical processes in the world, she pointed out the need to maintain the credibility of the enlargement policy and emphasized that this region, which historically, geographically and culturally belongs to the EU, should be integrated into the European family as soon as possible.

The President was pleased to receive information from Prime Minister Sanchez that Spain is interested in increased economic cooperation in the areas of tourism, infrastructure, agriculture, energy, solar energy and water resources management.

The interlocutors discussed the appropriate commemoration of the participation of Macedonian fighters in the Spanish Civil War.
