President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova received today the Letters of Credence of the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Hellenic Republic, Ioannis Maloukos.
Viewing Greece as an important neighbor and a potential strategic partner, she expressed a sincere expectation for the opening of a new chapter in bilateral relations, in the spirit of good-neighborliness built upon a bona fide policy.
In Siljanovska-Davkova’s view, the Hellenic Republic, as the country in the region with the longest experience in the European Union, bears a historical and political responsibility regarding the European integration of the Western Balkan countries.
Looking ahead to the Greek presidency of the EU Council in the second half of 2027, she anticipates intensified Greek engagement aimed at fulfilling the promises made in the Thessaloniki Agenda back in 2003.
Regarding the economic cooperation, the President highlighted Corridor 10 and the gas interconnector as projects of strategic importance for both countries, citing their guaranteed contribution to enhanced connectivity, economic development and regional energy security. The President welcomed the Greek initiative to include the Prespa region on the UNESCO World Heritage List, citing its exceptional natural and cultural value.
She firmly believes in the power of cultural diplomacy, inspired by the tremendous success of the Greek-Bulgarian-Macedonian performance of the scenic cantata “Carmina Burana”.
Ambassador Maloukos expressed a commitment to good-neighborly relations, built on a constructive political dialogue and consistent respect for international law.
“At the same time, Greece remains firmly committed to the European perspective of North Macedonia, as well as of the entire Western Balkans region and to supporting efforts on the path to EU membership. I sincerely hope that during my tenure, which will coincide with the Greek Presidency of the Council of the EU, we will witness significant progress by North Macedonia in this regard”, the Greek Ambassador to Skopje said.
The Ambassador described the presence of Greek companies in the country as an important economic bridge.
Siljanovska-Davkova conveyed warm greetings to the Greek President, Constantine Tassoulas, and to the Greek people.
At the end, she wished Ambassador Maloukos good health and success in his work.
