President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova received Albulena Haxhiu, Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, who is paying an official visit to the country.
She expressed satisfaction with the development of the Macedonian-Kosovo relations, which are characterized by regular political dialogue, shared strategic goals and aligned positions on international issues.
Siljanovska-Davkova noted that good neighborly relations, strengthening of regional cooperation and initiatives such as the Brdo-Brijuni Process contribute to greater respect, understanding and recognition of the Western Balkans as a credible partner to the EU.
The President reaffirmed support for Kosovo’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations. She reiterated that, within the EU accession process, countries should be evaluated fairly, based on the Copenhagen criteria.
As a former Member of Parliament, Siljanovska-Davkova views the role of parliaments and parliamentary cooperation as crucial for deepening democratic processes. She encouraged the positive dynamic of regular meetings between parliamentarians and the exchange of best practices, particularly in the context of European integration processes.
Haxhiu expressed gratitude for the Macedonian friendship and solidarity reaffirmed throughout the years. She noted that the Albanian community in the country plays an important role in fostering good bilateral relations. She emphasized her high regard for the Macedonian contribution to peace and stability in Kosovo through KFOR and NATO, as well as the support for Kosovo’s membership in Euro-Atlantic structures.
Both parties welcomed the progress made in developing economic cooperation and trade, noting that further enhancing infrastructure connectivity between the two countries and streamlining customs procedures are essential for continued growth.
The interlocutors also exchanged views on the current political situation, agreeing that reconciliation and a strong, unified regional approach contribute to the European perspective of the Western Balkans and to a better international standing.
