President Stevo Pendarovski, during his visit to the United States on the occasion of his participation in the United Nations General Assembly, met in New York with Natalia Kanem, Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
The meeting discussed the current cooperation between our country and UNFPA in terms of creating policies for the population and taking action to improve access to reproductive health services and prevent and respond to gender-based violence.
President Pendarovski stressed that our country is committed to creating legal and strategic initiatives aimed at improving women’s employment opportunities, access to high quality health services at national and local level, as well as creating gender responsible policies and budgets. In that context, President Pendarovski singled out the ratification of the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence and the new Law on Prevention and Protection against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence adopted this year.
The interlocutors expressed satisfaction with the current cooperation between UNFPA and North Macedonia in this difficult period of the pandemic because the visible results contribute to resolving several important issues related to the promotion of rights and services for the population.
