In the Cabinet of the President of the Republic of North Macedonia, a discussion was held on the topic “Influence and involvement of voters: to successful political campaigns? – lessons from the United States of America”, organized by the Presidential Center for Political Education, in cooperation with the International Republican Institute (IRI).
The discussion was addressed by Aleksandar Lj. Spasov, President of the Program Council of the Presidential Center for Political Education and Advisor to the President on Foreign Policy, Domestic Policy and Constitutional Affairs, and Christopher Brennan, Resident Program Director at IRI, while the questions were addressed by alumni members of the Policy School of the Presidential Center for Political Education, as participants in the discussion.
In the introductory speech, Spasov elaborated on the topics of the discussion: the presidential elections in the United States that should be held next year, the specifics of the American electoral process, the methods used for voter involvement and successful political campaigns, as well as the impact of the American elections in a wider context.
The problems and topics on which the left-wing and right-wing political options are most often focused on in order to win the electorate, and in the context of the changed social circumstances, were pointed out.
The resident program director at IRI, Christopher Brennan, in his presentation explained the entire electoral process in the US, the way of selecting presidential candidates, the tactics used in political debates and the strategies for a successful political campaign.
He also referred to the possible impacts that the presidential elections in the US in 2024 would have on global political trends, in the context of the new geopolitical situation and the general crisis of democracy that the world is facing.
During the discussion, Spasov stressed the continuous and constructive cooperation with IRI, as a partner institution of the Presidential Center for Political Education, and expressed his gratitude to Brennan, who shared with the alumni members his twenty years of experience and expertise in the field of political campaigns in the USA.
