President Stevo Pendarovski received today Ilhan Kyuchyuk, Rapporteur for the Republic of North Macedonia in the European Parliament.
At the meeting, opinions were exchanged on the country’s progress in the context of the aspirations for membership in the European Union, in anticipation of the adoption of the European Parliament Resolution on the European Commission Reports on North Macedonia for 2019 and 2020, prepared by Rapporteur Kyuchyuk.
President Pendarovski expressed gratitude for the continued strong support of the European Parliament for the enlargement process, as well as for the engagement of Rapporteur Kyuchyuk.
At the meeting, President Pendarovski assessed that the EP resolution is an important document that should reflect the real picture of the achieved reforms and the political situation in the country, as well as point out the issues that the country should focus on in the future.
President Pendarovski reiterated the expectation of holding the first intergovernmental conference soon, which will mark the official start of accession negotiations with the EU.
The start of negotiations, according to President Pendarovski, will be an additional motive for further implementation of the necessary reforms. Bilateral issues, according to President Pendarovski, should be resolved in the spirit of good neighborliness and European values.
At the meeting, opinions and information were exchanged on the current situation in the country and in the wider region.
