President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova received today a delegation from the NATO Joint Force Command in Naples, led by Admiral Stuart Munsch, who is visiting the country with his colleagues on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of our country’s membership in NATO. The meeting was also attended by the US Ambassador, Angela Aggeler.
Expressing her gratitude for their presence at an important anniversary for the country, President Siljanovska-Davkova stressed that of the two strategic goals for which there was consensus, the first – NATO is a reality, and she sees no reason for the second – the EU to be attained.
Even in this difficult and sad period that Macedonian citizens are going through, as she said, it was very important for us to know that we are not alone and that our friends, including NATO, are with us even in the most difficult moments.
Expressing condolences for the huge loss in the tragedy in Kocani, Admiral Munsch said that the country, as well as all other countries that are helping, have recognized the importance of a rapid response to the crisis.
The interlocutors pledged further cooperation within the Alliance, with Admiral Munsch thanking for the Macedonian contribution to numerous peacekeeping missions, based on which it earned a well-deserved respect.
The President expressed readiness the Macedonian Army’s to continue to be part of NATO missions in order to contribute to preserving regional and global security.
The meeting also discussed the latest developments in the Balkans, and both agreed that the region continues to face numerous security challenges, especially related to the dispute between Kosovo and Serbia, as well as the situation in Republika Srpska, i.e. Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Pointing out that NATO remains committed to maintaining the security of the region, Admiral Munsch concluded by emphasizing that security challenges will be more easily overcome if the Alliance and the European Union participate in their resolution together.
