Today, President Stevo Pendarovski received the Minister of Defense of the Portuguese Republic, Maria Helena Carreiras, who is paying an official visit to the country.
The two interlocutors discussed the bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the field of defense, the reform process in the country with the aim of improving the military infrastructure and modernization of the armed forces, as well as the joint activities within the framework of NATO, with the aim of strengthening the Alliance and fulfilling the common goals in security and defense.
President Pendarovski welcomed the signed Agreement on bilateral cooperation in defense between the two countries and expressed the expectation that it will contribute to the intensification of Macedonian-Portuguese defense cooperation, cooperation in the field of security policy, peace operations, joint training and education.
At the meeting, information was exchanged about the situation in Ukraine, during which President Pendarovski reaffirmed the support for territorial sovereignty and integrity of Ukraine, as well as the military, political and humanitarian aid that the country provides to Ukraine.
In the context of the current situation related to European integration, President Pendarovski thanked the efforts made by the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union and for the overall support from Portugal regarding Macedonian European integration.
