The Wife of the President, Elizabeta Gjorgievska, attended today the opening of the new sensory room in the primary school “Blaze Koneski” in the Municipality of Aerodrom – Skopje. The sensory room is an additional opportunity for students with special educational needs to have better conditions for inclusion in the education system.
The activity is implemented as part of the work of the Foundation for Educational and Cultural Initiatives “Step by Step” within the project “Be IN, Be INclusive, Be INcluded”. The project is in cooperation with the Association for Promotion and Development of Inclusive Society “Inclusive” and the Association for Services to Persons with Disabilities “Handimak”.
The President’s Wife, Ms. Elizabeta Gjorgievska, with her presence at the opening of the sensory room, supported the efforts of the civil society and the institutions to strengthen the inclusion in the education system in order to increase the inclusion of more students with special educational needs.
The project “Be IN, Be INclusive, Be INcluded” contributes to the promotion of the opportunities for education for students with special educational needs and development of inclusive primary education. So far, four sensor rooms and three inclusive playgrounds have been opened, and two schools have received assistive technology and didactic materials for students with disabilities. In the coming period, work will be done to improve accessibility in 40 schools, and as part of the project, monthly scholarships are awarded to 320 students with disabilities. This school year, this number will increase by an additional 150 scholarship holders.
The project is implemented with financial support from the European Union. The sensory rooms in the primary school “Blaze Koneski” and in the primary school “Gjorgjija Pulevski” in the Municipality of Aerodrom are furnished with a donation from Euroins Insurance AD Skopje and the Municipality of Aerodrom.
Last year, President Pendarovski had a meeting with the representatives of the “Step by Step” Foundation, where he expressed his full support for raising public awareness to improve inclusion in our society and improve the educational opportunities for students with special educational needs.
